About the course
Farm operations create a complex mix of premises, products, environmental, vehicle, employee, and operational liability exposures. This course provides Canadian P&C brokers with a practical framework for evaluating those risks and determining where primary farm liability, Environmental Impairment Liability, and umbrella coverage must work together. Participants will examine farm exposures involving agri-tourism, custom farming, livestock, product sales, employees, volunteers, off-road vehicles, fuel, chemicals, pesticides, manure management, and other pollution hazards. The course also explains how the CGL pollution exclusion can create uninsured gaps, when specialized Environmental Impairment Liability coverage is required, and why claims-made triggers, retroactive dates, cleanup costs, and government-ordered remediation must be reviewed carefully. The final section explores umbrella and excess liability, including attachment points, retained limits, drop-down coverage, underlying policy requirements, and common specialty exclusions. Designed for brokers serving agricultural and commercial clients, this course strengthens the ability to identify liability gaps, coordinate multiple coverage layers, and document practical recommendations before a serious loss occurs.
