About the course

Modern farms rely on high-value buildings, sophisticated equipment, and specialized production systems that demand more than standard property insurance. This course provides Canadian P&C brokers with a practical understanding of how to evaluate farm outbuildings, machinery, and specialty agricultural operations to ensure coverage reflects the realities of today's farming environment. Participants will examine the insurance needs of barns, grain bins, quonsets, livestock facilities, and other agricultural structures, with emphasis on replacement cost valuation, scheduled versus blanket limits, and changing property values. The course also explores the unique risks associated with farm machinery, including insurance to value, coinsurance, upset and overturn, ingestion exclusions, custom farming, off-premises use, and loss-of-use during critical planting and harvest periods. Finally, participants will review the specialized insurance considerations for dairy, poultry, and swine operations, including equipment breakdown, power interruption, backup generators, business interruption, biosecurity, and the continuous operation of critical production systems. Designed for Canadian farm insurance brokers, this course strengthens the ability to identify complex agricultural property exposures, establish accurate insurance values, recommend appropriate coverage solutions, and help farming clients maintain operational continuity following a significant loss.
