About the Course
Automobile coverage depends on more than the limits shown on the declarations page. This course examines three areas where coverage disputes and broker errors commonly arise: policy conditions, Standard Endorsement Forms, and rideshare use. Participants will review the operating rules of the automobile policy, including who qualifies as an insured, newly acquired and replacement vehicles, material changes in risk, prohibited uses, licence requirements, and post-loss duties. The course also explains how SEFs modify the base policy, with practical attention to Loss of Use, legal liability for damage to non-owned automobiles, waiver of depreciation, and Family Protection coverage. The rideshare component explores how coverage can change when the app is off, waiting for a match, a trip has been accepted, or a passenger is in the vehicle. Brokers will learn to identify passenger-for-compensation exclusions, assess platform insurance, recognize when endorsements or commercial automobile coverage may be required, and document client disclosures and recommendations clearly.
