About the Course
A homeowners policy is only as effective as the broker's understanding of what is insured, where coverage limits apply, and which valuable possessions require additional protection. This course provides Canadian P&C brokers with a practical review of homeowners property coverage, built-in policy extensions, and the specialized insurance needs of jewellery, coin, and stamp collections. Participants will examine how Coverage A, B, and C protect the dwelling, detached structures, and personal property while identifying common coverage gaps involving detached buildings, renovation materials, business property, and special limits. The course also explores the practical value of built-in homeowners extensions, including fire department charges, freezer food, debris removal, by-law coverage, lock replacement, mass evacuation, and tear-out costs. Finally, participants will learn when valuable personal property exceeds standard policy limits and requires scheduled coverage, blanket limits, all-risk floaters, current appraisals, inventories, and proper documentation. Designed for Canadian personal lines brokers, this course strengthens the ability to identify coverage gaps, protect high-value personal property, explain policy limitations clearly, and provide clients with informed, well-documented insurance recommendations before a loss occurs.
